Coffee Grounds Upcycling Eco-Workshop
From October 2023 to July 2024, we held 8 sessions of the Upgraded Coffee Grounds Eco-Friendly Workshop at various locations including the Hong Kong Women Workers' Association in Tsuen Wan, TCK Learning Centre for Migrant Workers in Tai Hang, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Tohome HK in To Kwa Wan, and St. John’s Cathedral in Central. A total of 84 migrant domestic workers participated in these workshops.
Sponsored by the Environment and Conservation Fund, the workshops aimed to educate participants on making eco-friendly products, such as handmade soaps and scrubs, from coffee grounds. This initiative helped enhance their environmental awareness and encouraged the reuse of everyday waste materials.
Key Outcomes:
-
Participants showed strong interest and actively engaged in making coffee grounds products.
-
Many shared their hometown stories related to coffee, fostering mutual understanding.
-
The workshops facilitated communication and learning among migrant domestic workers.
Importance of the Event:
-
Enhanced environmental awareness and practical skills among migrant domestic workers.
-
Provided useful knowledge for reducing waste in daily life.
-
Strengthened community connections and support networks.
-
We plan to continue these workshops and explore additional coffee grounds products, such as face masks and candles, to offer more creative opportunities for participants.
